Digi Beta, Digital Betacam

Sony Digital Betacam 40 minute tape
Sony DVW 700P Digital Betacam Camcorder with matte box
The common term for Digital Betacam, a digital recording format launched by Sony in 1993

Digi Beta is still the industry workhorse for standard definition digital production and most programmes with a reasonable budget are still originated using Digi Beta. It is techically superior to cheaper digital formats such as DVCAM and DVCPRO. Digi Beta is found in camcorders such as the Sony DVW700 & DVW970 and in edit suite decks such as the DVW500.

Small tapes to fit camcorders are available in up to 40 minutes running time and large tapes for edit decks can run up to 120 minutes.
