Disc Recorder

The device for encoding and recording information digitally onto an optical disc using a laser. Some disc recorders can only be written to once such as CD-R, DVD-R and BD-R and some are re-writable such as CD-RW, DVD-RW and BD-RE.

Some camcorders such as the Sony XDCAM range use a Blu Ray (BD-RE) disc recorder instead of tape.
