Frame rate converter
Some cameras such as the Panasonic Varicam can shoot at "off speed" frame rates to capture high speed or slow motion effects. Pictures that have been shot off speed can only be viewed or digitised into an edit suite after they have been converted to a standard frame rate eg. 25 fps.
This conversion process is done in a frame rate converter such as the JVC AJ-FRC27 or can be done through a capture card such as the AJA Kona if you're editing in Final Cut Pro with the frame rate converter software plug in installed.
