Gaffer

The Gaffer is the person in overall charge of the lighting crew.

The Gaffer is an experienced lighting electrician and will work in close association with the DOP and interpret the DOP's instructions as to how a scene should be lit. The Gaffer will normally be involved at pre production and at location recces so that he can work out which lighting units will be required, how many crew will be needed and how the power is going to be provided. The Gaffer's second in command is the Best Boy
