Lens Flare
When direct light points towards the camera this can sometimes cause a lens flare.
The effect of lens flare on a picture varies from a slight overall reduction in contrast or milkiness to the image to concentric circles of light crossing the image depending on how much direct light is hitting the lens. Flare is controlled and eliminated by using a French flag or a matte box.
