Lower third

A name tag on screen in the bottom third of the available viewing area.

A lower third can be a person's name and title, a location or any other piece of on-screen text that helps the content of the programme. It is placed in the lower third picture area and can be justified right or left or even placed centrally.

It is also known as an Aston or Chyron, which are two particular pieces of equipment that are used to generate lower thirds.
