Matte Box

A matte box is used as a lens shade and to hold filters in front of a camera's lens. It can also support a french flag to control light hitting the lens and causing flare. It is a very useful standard piece of kit and is used on most cameras in almost all situations. It's important to know that your matte box will accept the size of filters you are using and will fit the lens or lenses in your camera package.
Some matte boxes are supported on rails attached to the camera and others can be fitted directly to the front of the lens.
