Nagra audio recorder

Nagra is a generic term for a make of portable analogue audio recorder using 1/4 inch reel to reel tape. Manufactured by Kudelski SA in Switzerland.

The Nagra was developed by Polish born engineer Stefan Kudelski and became the industry standard for film, television and radio production from the early 1960s through to the 1990s. Nagra is the Polish word for '[it] will record'. It was loved and used by thousands of sound recordists who valued its robust engineering and superb sound quality which made it a very reliable location recorder.

Later models could record 2 track stereo and SMPTE timecode.

The Nagra is now rarely used and has been replaced with digital technology recorders such as the Aaton Cantar, Zaxcom Deva or HHB Portadat
