A high quality film format used for documentary and drama production.

Super 16mm differs from standard 16mm because it uses the wider aspect ratio of 1.66:1 or 15:9 thus using more of the negative and increasing the image size.Gradually being replaced by high def but still widely used in television & film production. Gives very high quality images and has the advantage of variable frame rates. Film needs to processed before being transferred to tape for editing and this can add a significant cost to the production. Camera package cost 200 to 500 per day. Film stock costs are high compared to videotape. A roll of super 16mm negative costs around £ 100.00 and runs for 11 mins.
