Wild Track
Sometimes, it's not possible to get a decent recording of a sound which happens during the action. Perhaps because the dialogue obscures the sound or because you can't get the mic close enough without it being in shot. When this happens, the recordist will record the effect "wild" without having to worry about the picture. For example, close perspective of footsteps or a door shutting which was obscured by dialogue, or an actor's line which was spoken out of shot. These wild tracks are noted on the sound report sheet so that the dubbing editor can use them in the tracklay.
