Since
watching the extras of the first DVD I ever owned I have dedicated my life to
film. At the first chance possible, I set the ball rolling by saving the money
from my paper-round to buy my first video camera, aged 14. Since its purchase I
have not stopped making and studying moving image, both as part of my education
and independently.
I desperately wish to be working within the institutions
behind the construction of this most modern, aware, and accessible of the
popular arts and I hope for my career to follow my passion, practical
filmmaking.I
have always had a keen eye for photography and the moving image, becoming
cultivated through my A levels and Degree, so my natural enthusiasm and skill
lends me towards camera work. The career path I hope to forge runs through the
profession of cinematography, starting with camera operation. Sensing the
momentum and inevitable shift towards digital and, as ever, wanting to be at
the forefront I am particularly enthusiastic to train as a DIT.
I
have consistently engaged in Short Film practice, whether as part of my
education or independently, mostly enjoying and stipulating over the camera
work. During my A levels, I had several of my short films played in the Southampton
Picture House, Harbour Lights, and have recently come second place in a country
wide, Bristol based short film competition, having the piece also shown at the
BFI. I have recently collaborated from the Director’s chair with the University
of Southampton’s Wessex Films Society and an independent Film Composer in
creating a short. My highest grades have always been awarded to the practical
element of my various courses bumping my marks to the top grade.
I am currently
determinedly searching for work experience in the field of cinematography, paid
or unpaid, in any city in order to receive experience and hands-on training.
This will also give me a foothold into the industry, whether through direct interaction with the
people I work with or the contacts I may gain.
