Front Mount

Tyler Nose Mount attached to helicopter for aerial filming with 16mm camera

The Front Mount should not be confused with a front mounted Ball Mount. Also known as a Nose Mount, this type of mount is attached to the front of the aircraft under the nose. If it's is a rigid mount such as the Tyler Nose Mount, the horizon rolls as the aircraft banks so it's great for a forward looking aircraft "point of view" shot. Front mounts can be tilted to look straight down by using the remote control unit from inside the aircraft so they are very good for an approach, reveal and chase shot of a moving vehicle e.g. police action docs. They can be used with 35mm, 16mm and all hand held video cameras including High Def.

Points to note:

Front Mounts cannot be reloaded in flight so filming time is restricted by the length of tape or film in the camera.

Cannot clean the lens without landing first.

The Tyler Nose mount is not gyro stabilised so it works best with a wide focal length lens setting.

Some Ball Mounts can be front mounted allowing full pan & tilt, gyro stabilisation and tape reloads in flight.
