Remote Controlled Aircraft

Hovercam camera in model helicopter

There are occasions when a smaller, model sized aircraft may be desirable, for instance filming inside a large building or where access for a full sized aircraft would be impossible. If you can achieve your shots with a remote controlled model aircraft you might also find it a cheaper alternative to using a full sized version.

Remote controlled helicopter
These can be supplied with a gryo stabilised pan & tilt mount and can fly in the same way as full sized helicopters. However, they are restricted to carrying smaller cameras such as DV or HDV if you're on video and film cameras with a 100ft load of film which limits your filming time. On the positive side, landing and take off procedures are quicker and re-loading is straightforward. www.hovercam.com

Remote controlled Airship
Another method of suspending a camera indoors again using a gyro stabilised pan & tilt camera mount. The airship can be manoeuvred in any direction and will give good steady shots subject to wind conditions. Larger airships can also be used outdoors. www.hovercam.com
