Audio

Audio post production for High Definition is basically the same as for Standard Definition, but you'll need to produce additional deliverables and probably E 5.1 surround sound mix which may have to be Dolby - E encoded (see below).

There's also (hopefully) more money available in the budget to allow for extra time in the tracklay and final mix so you can create a rich soundscape to accompany the high definition pictures.

You should allow a liitle more time / money for the deliverables and layback sessions as there will be more deliverables to produce.

You'll then go through the same sessions as for Standard Defintion Production:

Tracklay

Spots or Foley

Premix

Voice over or Narration

Final Mix

Layback

Create Sound Deliverables

Multi Channel (5.1) or Surround Sound delivery

Occaisionally your broadcaster or client may ask for surround sound on unencoded separate tracks or for an AC3 encoded version which is used for DVD production. But In most cases you will be delivering surround sound as Dolby E encoded.

For most deliverables the tracks should be arranged as follows. (Please check your contracted technical specifications before relying on this layout)

Track Audio
1 Left
2 Right
3 Centre
4 Low frequency effects
5 Surround left
6 Surround right
7 Not required
