Technical Equipment

What technical equipment will be needed on location ?

Often the choice camera is not left to the cameraman but is decided within a commissioning contract.  A level of protection for the equipment and the support infrastructure to support a particular level of production must be appropriate.  Working in a dynamic environment like the mountains there is a maxim that says ‘Too heavy to move.  Too light to cover’.  The balance has to be struck where you can keep up, keep working and keep safe.

Take spares and back ups

Simple things like having enough batteries and charging systems is obvious. But to keep shooting when cameras are going down I operate with a series of technical back-ups where the first level might give an 80% level in shoot capability.  The next level might take you down to 50% and the next to 20%. Particularly when shooting in a very remote location it makes sense to take a spare camera body and label it ‘For use I an emergency only!’
