Music falls into 1 of 3 categories
1. Library or Production Music
There are many libraries offering music designed specifically for television, radio & media. They offer a large choice, they're easy to licence and represent good value.

2. Commercial Music
Anything from Abba to ZZ Top, Prokofiev to Pavarotti. Music that you pay for on CD, DVD or download is commercial music. The cost of a licence varies from easily affordable to prohibitive but most commercial music can be licenced at very reasonable rates so don't assume it's beyond your budget without checking first.
